I am a sucker for salmon! It is probably one of my favorite things to cook, and to eat. My kids love salmon as well, so I try to make it as often as possible.
Since we cook it so often, I am always looking for fun new ways to make salmon. Some of our favoritefamily-friendly recipes for salmon have been Creamy Salmon & Shrimp, Creamy Dill Crusted Salmon, and Burbon Salmon.
Since we cook salmon so often, sometimes it can be difficult to come up with something new, so honestly, I don’t even try to get too out there and creative. Sometimes, simple is best, especially when it comes to seafood. You honestly can’t go wrong with a simple pan-fried salmon. Add in some red onions and a creamy dill mustard sauce and you have yourself a weeknight dinner that is done in less than 20 minutes!
Pan-Fried Mustard Dill Salmon Recipe
As I said, sometimes simple dinners are the best, so I went super simple with this pan-fried dill mustard salmon. You likely have most of the ingredients in your house already, so make sure you check the pantry and fridge before you run to the grocery store. All you need to recreate this easy weeknight dinner is:
- Salmon Fillets
- 1 Red Onion
- Ground Mustard
- Dijon Mustard
- Dill
- Heavy Cream
- Butter
That’s it, maybe some salt & pepper to taste and you have everything you need to make this super simple pan-fried salmon recipe. The creamy dill mustard sauce is really only 3 ingredients too! Mustard, heavy cream, and Dill. It really can’t get any easier than this.
How to make your pan-fried salmon
Salmon doesn’t take very long to fully cook, especially if you are doing a simple pan-fried salmon.
Start by melting a little butter in a hot ceramic pan. For this recipe, you will want to cook your thinly sliced red onions first, since they will likely take a little longer to cook than your salmon. Toss the onions in the hot pan for about 5 minutes before adding your salmon to the pan.
Season your raw salmon with salt, pepper, and ground mustard. Then cook your salmon for about 5 minutes on each side until it is done.
That’s all it takes to get a perfect pan-fried salmon. 10 minutes and one hot pan and you have yourself a delicious seafood dinner!
Creamy Mustard Dill Sauce for Pan-Fried Salmon
Once your pan-fried salmon is fully cooked, you can make your mustard dill salmon sauce! This creamy mustard sauce really makes this salmon delicious, and it is so simple.
This mustard sauce isn’t just for salmon though, you can make this with chicken, pork, steaks, even with roasted veggies! It is a very versatile sauce and honestly good on pretty much anything as long as you like mustard.
I will say though, I hate yellow mustard. I don’t like it on sandwiches or hot dogs, it just isn’t for me. This creamy mustard dill salmon sauce though? Sign me up to put it on absolutely everything I cook from here on out!
To make this creamy mustard sauce, take your Dijon mustard, heavy cream, and Dill and start adding it to the hot pan right after removing the salmon and onions. Don’t clean the pan first. You want all of the drippings and little crispy bits that have been leftover from cooking your pan-fried salmon and red onions. This will help add extra flavor to your creamy mustard sauce.
Add your ingredients a little at a time. You can always add more but can never take any away once it has been added. I started with 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard to 1/4 cup Heavy cream and about 1 Tbsp Dill. Feel free to modify this though. Add more cream, more dijon, more dill, you know your taste so trust yourself.
When you have your sauce the way you like it, top your salmon and onions and enjoy your delicious and easy dinner!
