Whether you are a homeowner or living in a rented apartment, it’s important to look after your property and keep it well maintained – it’s nice to feel proud to live where you live and to not feel stressed when guests come over, due to it not being looked after.
Along with regular tidying and decorating, there are a few things that you should do around the house to ensure it’s looked after and to reduce the chances of things going wrong – if things do go wrong, it can be costly. Checking the guttering is important to reduce blockages, your plumbing should also be checked – if you need any help, a company like Bluefrog Plumbing will fix any issues – and your washing machine should be cleaned. Washing machines can be expensive to replace.
Below, we look into three things you should be doing to look after your home.
Check your guttering
It’s not a fun job, but your guttering should be checked regularly, especially during the winter months. Moss can grow in your gutter, and dirt can build up, causing it to block, which can lead to all sorts of issues, which can be expensive. Try to look out for any leaks or damage to the guttering, as well as remove any standing water.
Check your washing machine
Cleaning your washing machine will reduce the chance of mould growing and it getting damaged, reducing its lifespan – the last thing you want is your washing being cleaned inside a mouldy washing machine. Every month give your machine a wipe over and run it without anything in it. Remember to clean the drum of the machine as well as drawers, as detergent can build up in them.
Bleed your radiators
You should be bleeding your radiators to ensure they work to their best ability. When winter is approaching, and you know your heating is going to be on, just before this is the most important time to bleed them. By bleeding them effectively, you will save money on your energy bills as well as reduce the chances of them not working. If you have never bled your radiator before, YouTube is a great place to look. If you are still struggling, ask your friends or family members as they may be able to do it, and if not, they may be able to point you in the direction of someone who can come in and do it for you.
There are so many different things that you should be doing to look after your home, our guide is just the beginning. Make sure you put a list together and regularly go over it, to keep your home in tip top shape.
