Whether you are an employer looking to retain or attract staff, an employee evaluating your work life, or just somebody looking at the available career opportunities in 2023, here are a few career trends of 2023 that you should be aware of.
Career Trends of 2023
Job hopping
For many years it had been the case that once you found a career, you were there for life. You would work up in the business and were rewarded for your service and skills. However, something that has been changing more recently and will continue to trend in 2023 is job hopping. This is where employees will spend anywhere from as little as six months to a few years with a business, gaining relevant skills and knowledge before receiving offers or looking for a better business opportunity and paying with another company.
Flexible and remote working
There have always been jobs available with flexible working hours and remote working opportunities. However, before COVID-19 hit, these jobs were a lot less common. Since 2020 the trend of working from home or flexible hours has significantly increased due to many factors that positively impact employers and staff. If business owners can allow their staff to work from home, it removes the need for large business premises and therefore cuts or reduces overhead costs and increases profits. If a business is smart it will invest some of this money into its staff in the form of training, anything from PowerPoint courses to first aid or even role-specific qualifications.
Evolution of technology
Over the last few decades, technology has come forward in leaps and bounds and shows no real sign of slowing down or stopping its advancements. This is a bit of a double-edged sword and can be seen as both a positive and a negative when discussing careers. On the one hand, all these advancements could potentially remove the requirement for human operation in some roles. Still, on the other hand, it will open new and exciting opportunities for those with the right skills and experience. And now, with the new powerful artificial intelligence (AI) systems, there has been a new shift in technology careers.
How job applications are changing
An increasing trend for job applications in 2023 is doing them via video resumes. Although not entirely replacing the well-known written resume method, it is fast becoming a hit with employers and employees alike. There are many benefits to both parties when jobs are applied via video, as candidates can better express and explain themselves, sharing not only their qualifications and experience with their potential employer but also showing a little bit of who they are as a person and their personality. This can help make a big impression on whoever is in charge of the interviewing process and allows employers to get a glimpse of who they might be recruited to work with.
The world is moving at a fast pace, now more than ever. Make sure you keep an eye out for other career trends in 2023, as plenty of them exist.
