Do you feel the need to renew your home right now? Maybe it’s been a good few years since you last redecorated, or you’ve just moved into an older house and need to make a difference? Then we’ve got the post for you! In both these cases, you’re probably on a pretty tight budget and need to get the most bang for your buck, and projects like those below are perfect on both counts.
After all, you don’t want to be spending a lot of money and time on your decor – especially if you’re someone who likes to change things a lot to suit your current tastes! But with a few quick jobs that’ll only skim the top off of your savings jar, you can have a fresh and fun feeling space in the course of a few days.
Buy Stick-on Wallpaper
Want to wallpaper bland, empty walls but don’t want to go through the hassle of setting up a pasting table, mixing up a big bucket of paste (that often is ten times more than you need!), and applying glue to the back of the paper before you even get anywhere near the wall? Then you should invest in stick-on wallpaper!
Papers like these are adhesive, meaning you just need to pop them against the wall and slowly pull away the backing while smoothing down the front side. If the paper gets a bit skewed or bubbly, simply slowly pull it back and use a smoothing tool to guide it back onto the wall straight and flat.
Put Down a New Carpet
You may think carpet is an expensive flooring option, and it can be depending on the type of carpet you’re interested in. Of course, you also need to factor in the amount you need to buy. With the average room at least 9 square meters across, the eventual cost may become a concern.
But carpet lasts at least 15 years, is incredibly comfortable, and always looks good in a space. That makes investing in carpet installation a budget friendly idea; get it laid properly and cut perfectly to size and you won’t have to replace it any time soon. Not to mention an installation team can usually be in and out within the day!
Regrout Any Tiling
Most homes have a lot of tiles in them, whether in the kitchen or bathroom or both. If you want to immediately upgrade the way these look without ripping out the shower or the backsplash, rip out the old grouting and pipe in new stuff.
Of course, a job like this can feel a little finicky, but it’s super easy to get done once you start it. Make sure you’ve got the right tools on hand – a battery powered grout remover will be essential here – and be sure to pick up a DIY mask so you’re not breathing in any dust.
And if you’re worried you’ll get grout all over the tiles, all you need to do is wet a cloth and wipe down the surface once you’re finished. If the grout has dried, you may want sugar soap.
Smooth Off Any Rough Edges
Rough edges are common in DIY jobs. It’s what puts a lot of people off of doing projects themselves. But there’s always a way to smooth off the rough edges and bring a sense of completeness into a room.
Get yourself some good sanding paper or even an automated sanding tool, and get rid of any sticky-out bits on projects you completed with wood. Get yourself a fine detail brush, dip it in the paint you’re using for the walls, and use it to get right into the corners without getting blotches everywhere.
And the gap between the floor and the skirting board where you laid some of your own vinyl? Get a finishing strip and stick it down in the space that always catches your eye. If it’s the same color as either the floor or the gloss on the lower wall, you’ll stop noticing anything has even been added there!
Give Your Home a Refresh in a Week!
If you’re on a budget, don’t have much time, but hate the way your home looks right now, make a plan for projects like these. You’ll be done in a few days, you won’t break the bank, and you’ll be able to recline in peace and serenity knowing you’ve put some quality work in. That’s the kind of feeling every homeowner deserves!
