How To Cut Chore Time In Half

Doing chores all day long isn’t exactly fun. Most homeowners would prefer to spend time with their children or watch TV.

Chores, though, are essential. Nobody wants to return home to a dirty toilet, unmade beds, and piles of washing up in the sink.

Striking a balance between effort and the satisfaction of completing chores is a challenge, but it can be done. Instead of spending all your Saturdays and Sundays taking care of the house, you’re much better off looking for ways to cut down on chore time.

But how can you do that, exactly? Let’s find out.

How to Cut Chore-Time in Half!

Buy A Robot Vacuum

Vacuuming your floors yourself manually takes a long time. (Just ask anyone who has to do it every day). It seems like such a simple task, but actually removing all the debris from your floors and unplugging and plugging the vacuum back in takes a long time.

That’s why it’s such a good idea to get a robot vacuum. These handy devices automatically vacuum your floors, eliminating the need for you to spend your time doing it. What’s more, when they’re finished, they go back to their charging stations and neatly park themselves, ready for the next round.

Stop Going To The Grocery Store

Unless you’re someone who loves doing grocery shopping because it’s a chance to get out of the house, you’re better off using delivery services. The amount of time and money it takes to go to the supermarket can be substantial, particularly if it is busy or there’s traffic. The whole trip can take at least 90 minutes out of your day, usually more.

Delivery services often work out as the cheaper option overall. Getting someone to bring groceries to your door typically costs less than putting fuel in the car, driving to the store, and spending your precious time doing it.

Most online grocery options now let you buy the items you want with a single click. Some send you deliveries automatically, without you having to do anything at all. Just sign up and subscribe.

Use Marie Kondo’s Tidying Method

Clutter in your home adds to chore time significantly. If your belongings are strewn all over the place, it’s hard to vacuum, wipe down countertops, and clean surfaces.

But how do you whittle down the number of items clogging up your rooms? According to housekeeping expert, Marie Kondo, the trick is to get rid of anything that isn’t giving you joy.

Take a look around your rooms and ask yourself whether all the items in them are really giving you the experience that you want. Then, if they’re not, store them away somewhere. Don’t leave them out where they can clutter your home and cause you stress.

Get Someone Else To Deal With Your Schedule

Use Marie Kondo’s Tidying Method

Managing a schedule can often take just as much time as actually living it. You’re constantly planning, trying to fit more stuff into your day to the point where you wind up in a false economy. You’re spending so much time figuring out what you need to do next that you wind up falling further behind.

The good news is that you no longer have to manage your schedule yourself. Thanks to the legions of freelancers on Fiverr, you can get someone else to do it for you.

In fact, this applies to any annoying or administrative task you want someone to take care of around your home. Outsource it to a third party and forget about it.

Nuke Dirty Surfaces Before You Start Scrubbing

How many times have you attacked a dried-on stain, only to make zero progress after scrubbing for fifteen minutes? Probably, too many to count.

The problem with this approach is that it takes up all your time and makes cleaning exhausting. What you want is a system where you can wipe away stains with ease.

The trick here is to nuke stains before you start scrubbing with a suitable cleaning product. Then go and do something else, like the vacuuming, before returning to the original stain. If you do it right, you should be able to wipe it up easily with no trouble.

Get A Clothes Steamer

Ironing takes a long time. And it’s the sort of thing you have to do every day if you go to work. It’s also just hard work. Massaging clothes with a hot piece of metal requires a great deal of elbow grease.

Fortunately, there’s a nice little workaround you can try: a clothes steamer. These work similarly to irons except you don’t have to physically manipulate clothes yourself. Instead, just hang garments in the steamer, turn it on, and then allow the hot moisture in the air to do its magic.

Group Your Chores

Another hack is to group your chores together. For instance, you might group them by room. In the kitchen, you could wash all the pots and pans with dish soap and then move on to cleaning out the microwave. Likewise, you might group them by type, perhaps dusting all your rooms one day, or choosing a single day in the week when your kids go to sports clubs, reducing the total number of trips out of the house.

Avoid The Temptation To Do It All Yourself

If you live with other people getting them to help you with chores should be easy (at least in principle). However, today there are plenty of options even for people who live alone.

For instance, you can now hire people to come and help you with chores by the hour. You know what they say: two pairs of hands is better than one.

If that’s not an option for you, maybe you could team up with friends or neighbors and share chores. You never know who will be willing to help you.

Plan Your Meals For The Week

If you can cook all your meals on a Sunday afternoon, you can often save yourself a tremendous amount of time. It cuts down on thinking time, and you don’t have to wash up so many pots and pans.
