We all want our homes to be beautiful, clean, and pristine. However, it’s not always easy to find the time with the obligations of work, family, friends, and other factors. Things can pile up, issues can arise, and sometimes quick fixes are needed until we can get back on track. This has become more of a concern in the age of remote working, as a clean environment becomes more desirable than ever.
With all that said, cleaning doesn’t always have to be a long, drawn-out process, and you can do many things to keep spaces feeling fresh and comfortable that doesn’t involve an enormous amount of upkeep. Today, we’re going to look at how to keep your home lovely and livable, even when the obligations start to pile up.
Plan Ahead With the Right Equipment
Speaking for myself, I am a person that has difficulty remaining motivated when I don’t have the things I need to clean. Nothing strips you of your will to tidy quite like having to go out and get the materials to do so, which is why preparation is key. So, spend some time thinking about what cleaning essentials your house needs, and what you already have.
In terms of chemicals, floor cleaner, carpet shampoo, window cleaner, and bleach are all things that any household should have on hand. You can shop for eco-friendly detergents from Amazon to stock up on what you need to keep your home clean.
A robot vacuum will make your life a lot easier on the equipment side of things than the traditional broom, and while an excellent vacuum is certainly an investment, it will pay in the long term. It’s also good to have some scrubs and brushes handy in case you need to deal with stains or difficult dirt, which can quickly build up over time when left unchecked.
Once you have everything you need, you’ll need a good place to put these items…
Manage Your Storage
One of the common culprits of cluttered homes is a lack of good storage spaces. This is something that very frequently gets neglected by people living on their own for the first time, as while you may not start with a lot of things that need to be stored, life has a way of bringing more and more things into your home. After a while, this can get to the point where no amount of sorting and decluttering is really going to make a space feel less chaotic, so it’s important to find places to put all of this.
Plastic tubs and boxes are an excellent start for the things you don’t immediately need. These are stackable and can be put out of the way to bring a little order to your home. Filing cabinets are a great option for those working from home, even for those that don’t necessarily work with a lot of paper. Even a small number of work reports, files and such can make the vibe of a room a little more overwhelming, and having a place to stack it all away when you don’t need it is a great way to unwind and refresh.
For the items that you DO use on a regular basis, or ones you simply want to have on display, bookcases and cabinets are the perfect fit. After all, learning how to clean your home and do away with the chaos doesn’t mean living a minimalist lifestyle, and having places to showcase the things you love can make the space feel more “yours”. With that said, do keep in mind that not everything can be on display, so be selective when going through this process. Otherwise, you may end up just shifting the clutter rather than fixing it.
Vacuuming is Your Best Friend
Often, a feeling of disorder is just that; a feeling. Dust may make a place look less pleasant, but with dust particles floating around in the air, it makes a space feel unpleasant to be in, too, especially for those with hayfever. Luckily, if you followed our first steps, you should have a robot vacuum or comparable vacuuming device, which will make easy work of the floors once you’ve got the things on the floor into storage.
With that said, the floors are only part of the battle when it comes to dust. There are options if you want to mitigate the amount of time you lose to wiping everything down with a damp cloth. An air purifier with a HEPA filter will do wonders for ensuring that dust doesn’t keep settling on your surfaces. These appliances create a flow of air whilst catching any airborne particles in their filter before they have a chance to hit the ground.
The one downside is that these systems are unlikely to provide benefits to the whole house and can be an investment. So, if you can only afford one, try to position it in spaces that are more tricky to dust or that get the most traffic in your home.
Use Your Plates and Cutlery Sparingly
Nothing screams a chaotic home like an endless pile of dishes in the sink. When you’re going through busy times, it can feel overwhelming to go through and clean a week of dirty dishes, which tends to lead to people leaving them for much longer than they should. To remedy this, try to clean as you go and limit yourself to a few items that you use when you’re only cooking or preparing for yourself. By having one bowl, one plate, one knife, and fork, etc., you can ensure that there are never enough dishes in circulation to get overwhelmed. Plus, it will also save you the embarrassment of having people over only to realize you have no clean utensils to serve them with.
Keeping everything clean and free from clutter can be difficult when busy, but it will serve you well in the long run. For those working from home, you’re spending most of your time in the house, and if your environment isn’t conducive to productivity, your mindset won’t be either. If you simply don’t have time to do all the work yourself, that’s okay too! Simply call a professional in for help. Someone like Custom Cleaning of the Palm Beaches can be a real help when you need an expert to come clean for you
So, do your best with these quick changes, and you’re sure to reap the rewards. Good luck.
