This may come as a surprise, but biological stress is actually a new discovery. It wasn’t until the 50’s that Hans Selye documented stress in this way. It was his research that has helped people to cope with the stress that they are under in new, healthy ways. If you want to try and manage stressful situations, then this is the guide for you.
Listen to Some Music
If you are truly overwhelmed with a given situation, then it is a good idea for you to try and take a break so that you can relax. Sometimes playing some calm and relaxing music can help you to unwind your brain and your body. On top of this, it can also help you to lower your blood pressure while reducing cortisol. This is the hormone that is linked to stress.
Talk it Out
When you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you need to try and take a break so that you can talk about your problems. If you have a good relationship with your family, your friends, or your loved ones, then this will help you out quite a lot. This is especially important if you are under a lot of stress at home. Talking through it with people can put your life into perspective more than you realize. If you are under stress because you are taking care of someone at home, then remember there are services out there to help and support you. You could hire a home care service if you are taking care of someone elderly, or you could hire a childminder if you find it difficult to juggle your children’s schedule as well as your own.
Eat Well
Stress levels and a good diet are related more than you realize. When you are overwhelmed, you may find that you forget to eat and that you end up diving right for sugary, or fatty snack foods. If you can, you need to plan ahead and you also need to avoid sugary snacks where possible. Vegetables are very good for you and if you can opt for fish, then you will find that this has a very high level of omega-3. Tuna sandwiches really are brain food, so don’t be afraid to change out your lunches now and again for something healthier.
Laugh
Believe it or not, laughter is one of the best ways for you to improve your mood as well as your endorphins. One suggestion would be for you to try and look up some comedy shows on YouTube or even on Netflix. When you do, you will soon find that this puts a huge smile on your face and you are able to unwind way more.
Drink Some Tea
Having a large dose of caffeine can give you a spike in blood pressure. It can also cause your adrenal axis to go into overdrive. If you want to avoid this then try and go for a drink like green tea instead. This will give you a ton of health benefits, and it will lower your stress.
