Maryland is a great state to let the kids explore. There’s a lot of great spots for the whole family, but thanks to the amount of coastline that can be found within the state, it can be a discovery paradise for young minds.
Not only that, but Maryland itself is on the edge of some amazing national parks, meaning there’s a lot of space to run around, catch bugs, investigate the woods, and use the imagination. That’s something every kid loves to do while on vacation!
So if you want to head somewhere that’s perfect for the whole family, make sure The Old Line State is high on your potential destination list.
There’s a Giant Aquarium
Maryland is home to The National Aquarium, which is one of the most amazing aquariums in all of America. Kids will love visiting – the sheer size of the place alone is impressive! Tickets are a little on the pricier side, but under 4s go free, and the moment you step inside, you’ll know it’s money well spent.
Head on a whole score of tours while you’re there, get the kids involved with live feedings and the 4D cinema experience, and make sure you stop off at the gift shops before you leave. If you like it enough and want to come back one day for free, or you simply want to support the good work the aquarium does, pick up a membership while you’re there too.
You Can Explore Baltimore
While you’re in Maryland, make sure you stop off in Baltimore. It’s the hub of the state, and possibly even more so than the capital, Annapolis. There are some lovely top hotels in Baltimore for families to spend a few nights in. You can soak up a lot of sun walking along the coasts and the boardwalk (and grab some ready-to-eat crab as you go), and the kids are going to love wading into the water and trying out some of the carnival rides that can be found nearby. Baltimore really is a mixing pot for everyone to enjoy!
There’s a lot of History to Soak Up
Maryland is home to some amazing US history, as well as various cities that witnessed the making of many incredible figures from times gone by. Indeed, we mentioned Baltimore above as a great place to explore, but did you know that Baltimore was the birthplace of the national anthem?
When you share this with the kids, why not get them to see if they can remember how it goes and sing it? Join up with a guided tour once they’re done and be talked around the various galleries and museums – the price for such a trip isn’t bad either!
Both kids and adults alike can find history interesting and entertaining, so don’t miss out. If you’re a history buff yourself, you’re definitely going to want to see Fort McHenry and Federal Hill Park!
So, fancy Maryland for the summer? Yes, please!
